AUSTIN, Texas -- The hospital can often be a dreary place, especially for a child staying for an extended period of time.
A charity is making long-term hospital patients feel more at home, while receiving care.
Once a month, Cami Wright uses her interior design skills in a different way. With fancy pillows, a new comforter, and fun curtains, she jazzes up the dullest rooms. These clients aren't her usual. They are all young, long-term patients in a children's hospital.
"It is really special for these kids and their families to be able to have something they really like in their room and make it a more positive place to be for a long period of time," said Laura Wilson, a child life specialist.
Wright started her charity, Just Imagine It, to give the same gift her mother gave to her when she had open heart surgery as a child. Now, passing that joy on to other kids dealing with circumstances they can't control.
"They left the room and we were able to go in and decorate and they got to have surprise when they came back," said Wright.
Wright typically decorates one room a month. This month she got to do twin rooms.
“Am I in Heaven?" said Agatha Hernandez when she walked in her new room.
Aggie and Abby Hernandez, are twins from the San Antonio area, both suffer from chronic illnesses. Due to their condition, they return to the hospital once a year for two weeks for routine testing. Despite their frequent visits, living in a hospital room never gets any easier.
"I'm not used to the beds here. At home I have a queen bed," said Abby.
To make them more comfortable, the girls shared with Wright their vision for their room: one Star Wars, the other glitter themed.
"I'm like so in shock. I didn't even know they had mermaid stuff too. Oh my God. It's so amazing," said Aggie.
The twins will spend two weeks in the hospital and will take the decorations home with them.
