AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas is pursuing outgoing Secretary of State Rex Tillerson as its next chancellor, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Tillerson is said to be open to the opportunity.

The paper said the search committee has not made an official offer to Tillerson, but committee members are giving the UT alum the hard sell. Spectrum News reached out to UT, but we were told they can't comment on potential candidates.

Current chancellor William McRaven announced he is stepping down in May for health reasons.

Tillserson is set to formally leave his Secretary of State post at the end of the month.
