AUSTIN, Texas – A man who died after he was found lying in the road has been identified after a South Austin shooting on Friday, March 16.

Austin police were called to the 2200 block of South 5th Street around 5:30 a.m. after reports of shots fired and people screaming.

Matthew Aguirre, 22, was found lying in the road with obvious trauma to his body.

EMS transported Aguirre to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center where he died at 6:04 a.m.

Police are looking for a white car, which is possibly a Honda with paper license plates. An African-American man was seen driving the car, according to witnesses, potentially accompanied by two women.

Homicide investigators interviewed witnesses to the shooting.

An autopsy was performed by the Travis County Medical Examiner on March 17.

Police said this appears to be an isolated incident.

A GoFundMe was created by Aguirre’s family to raise money to pay for his funeral expenses. According to his family, Aguirre was the father of four young children ages six to 1 year old.
