SAN MARCOS – San Marcos police are allowing residents to return to their homes after a SWAT standoff promoted a limited evacuation Monday morning.

Smith Lane and Sherbarb Drive were evacuated during the SWAT situation around 8 a.m. Police were called after a man shot a woman before fatally shooting himself.

Witnesses told police they saw a woman screaming and trying to get out of a vehicle at a convenience store around 8 a.m. The vehicle was found at a home on Smith Lane when arriving police were confronted by a woman who ran out of the house with a gunshot wound to the face.

The woman was transported to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect was identified as 42-year-old Troy Ranard Jackson. Authorities said he barricaded himself inside the home and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police said the victim and the suspect knew eachother. 

Residents were asked to avoid the area until 10 a.m. when the situation ended. The investigation is ongoing, police said there is no danger to the public.
