AUSTIN, Texas — Austin police say there is a possibility that the device that detonated in a Southwest Austin neighborhood Sunday evening did so differently than that of the previous ones involving packages.

On Sunday evening, police were called to the 4800 block of Dawn Song Drive at 8:42 p.m. with reports of a "Bomb Hotshot," meaning a bomb, and a hotshot, the highest priority.

Two men in their 20s were injured, taken to St. David's South Austin, and are reportedly in good condition.

Austin Police Chief Brian Manley, in a press conference early Monday morning, addressed reports of a trip wire's involvement in Sunday night's explosion, saying that it's a very real possibility.

He stressed that this means since these explosions may not be limited to packages alone, and that the community needs to be aware of the heightened safety implications.

Manley, addresing a question from the audience, confirmed the bomb did detonate on the side of the road, and that the two men wounded were either riding or walking with bicycles at the time of the explosion.

He also noted that Austin ISD families in the affected area will be excused in the event of tardiness/absence and that buses would not be able to pick up there.

Those living in the area under investigation are asked to shelter in place until 10 a.m. and, in the event of an emergency, to call 911 and police will assist.

The investigating teams are working as much as they can, but believe they'll make more headway once daylight is available.
