LATHAM, N.Y. — High school students from across the Capital Region shared their thoughts Sunday on the gun control debate with Rep. Paul Tonko in the wake of the shooting at a Parkland, Florida high school.

About 100 students attended a town hall with the congressman at Shaker High School in Latham.

Tonko says gun control is something the students wanted to talk about and it's important to listen to all voices involved.

The Democrat is part of the gun violence prevention task force in the House.

"The majority of students especially seniors have lead a life that began with Columbine and now most recently the Parkland shooting incident. Just like there are chronological generations, there are also political generations," said Tonko. "They get defined by certain dynamics and this may be the expression that's important to them."

Tonko says the students he met with have great heart, intellect and passion.
