SAN ANTONIO – An intoxicated woman was hit by a car and died after her friend was trying to drive her home on Friday.

According to police, around 2 a.m. a 22-year-old woman was picked up by a friend from a bar to give her a safe ride home.

On Interstate 10 the driver said she pulled over feeling like the woman was about to jump out of the car.

As soon as the driver pulled over, the woman got out of the car and jumped over the median. She was immediately hit by eastbound traffic.

The woman was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment in serious condition and later died.

The driver who hit the woman fled the scene of the crash and will face charges for failure to stop and render aid.
