SAN MARCOS, Texas - Officials gathering to celebrate the merging of Austin and San Marcos Habitat for Humanity on Tuesday.
The move was made to address home affordability issues throughout Central Texas. Home prices in Hays County have jumped 12 percent in the last two years.
"I think a really important part of this process was when we made the decision to come here. We made the decision to do it so we could produce more throughout the region, and we've also made the decision to create a sustainable program that could continue to serve this community for many years to come," said Phyllis Snodgrass, CEO of the Austin Habitat for Humanity.
Officials believe bringing the two Habitat affiliates together will allow for more affordable homes to be built.
