TEXAS – Some proposed regulations by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission could mean major changes for hunters this season.
The proposal includes changes to fishing, deer hunting, and bird hunting.
In effort to maintain management goals, a new regulation could be placed on largemouth bass. Previously fishers could catch largemouth bass up to 18-inches long. The change would reduce the length to 14-inches and a five fish daily bag limit.
As the number of King Mackerel fish continues to grow in the Gulf of Mexico, a proposed regulation could mean fishers would be able to increase their number of catches. The proposal would raise the limit of King Mackerel from two to three fish per person daily.
To standardize deer season statewide, the proposal would kick hunting season off on the first Saturday of November and end on the third Sunday in January. Currently North and South zone counties have differing end dates to the season with the north ending three weeks before the south.
The number of northern pintail ducks hunters can take home could double for the 2018 season. The pitch would increase the daily bag limit from one pintail duck to two.
