AUSTIN, Texas - A small memorial is forming in Central Austin for a jewelry store owner killed in his own home. The store is closed until further notice, but that isn't stopping people from bringing letters of encouragement.

"He was my neighborhood jeweler," said Kelly Daghlian.

Gallerie Jewelers in central Austin opened in 1995. Daghlian says in that time, Ted Shaughnessy and his wife became a part of their community.

"They don't live next to us, but their business is here, so they spend most of their time here," she added.

Shaughnessy was shot and killed during a home invasion in southwest Travis County early Friday morning.

Daghlian, along with others from the community, dropped off flowers at the store, a way to remember the man they describe as "kind."

Anyone who knew Shaughnessy, also knew his pets.

"Him and his wife would work the store, and they always had the dogs in there," said Daghlian.

"He would come in a bring them in, and they were just the sweetest friendliest. They were like his second set of kids," said Michelle Acosta, who works next door.

Acosta says she got to know Shaughnessy over the past five years. He made a point to say "hello" just about every day.

"Not everybody is not always that friendly, but you know, he was and just getting to know him, so it's going to be sad that we are not going to get to see him anymore. I'm going to miss him," she said.

The shock and pain of Friday's tragedy is still sinking in for the community, but friends and customers hope their small token of support will help.

Travis County deputies are still looking for the person responsible. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the Sheriff's Office.
