AUSTIN, Texas — Travis County deputies are investigating a homicide in southwest Austin.

According to deputies at the scene, a call to 911 was placed about 4:45 a.m. Friday. The call concerned an intruder at a home on Oliver Road, near E. Highway 290.

Police said shots were fired, and evidence gathered at the scene appears to confirm the situation involved an intruder.

Upon arrival, police found the body of Theodore Shaughnessy, 55, of Austin. They further said no suspect has been located or identified but it is presumed the person responsible is armed and dangerous.

Detectives were interviewing neighbors in order to obtain further details. A sheriff's department spokesperson said an incident such as this is unusual for the area and the neighborhood is typically very quiet.

"I've been here since '93 and nothing like that has happened," said Ricardo De La Rosa, who owns a store nearby. "No problems. Great customers, great people all around here."

De La Rosa said this isn't all that shocking because something like this can happen anywhere to anyone even if you are armed.

"Whether you have a weapon or not, It doesn't guarantee," he said.

A nearby gun shop owner, who didn't want to be interviewed, said Shaughnessy was a customer of his. He said he was a nice person, who isn't the type to have enemies.
