WASHINGTON -- Supreme Court justices are suggesting that states should be able to limit what people can wear to vote.

They want to discourage people from wearing clothes supporting political candidates.

Justices heard arguments about a Minnesota law that bars voters from wearing political clothing at the polls. The law covers apparel like Donald Trump's ‘Make America Great Again’ hats and Democratic Party T-shirts and union buttons. Opponents say the law is overly broad, but Minnesota has defended it as a reasonable restriction prevents voter intimidation.

Other states, including Texas, have similar laws, so the case could have an impact beyond Minnesota.
