AUSTIN, Texas - Amplify Austin Day is focused on giving back to local nonprofits. This year's goal is to raise $10 million for the 700 organizations involved.

One of these organizations is a small nonprofit school of just 70 kids where students of all different abilities are learning together.

"Children learn how to walk, how to socialize, how to play, play cooperatively with a peer," said Megen Glass Bethune, executive director of the Rise School of Austin.

The Rise School of Austin is an inclusive environment for gifted, traditional and development-delayed students.

"Every child deserves to have this amount of investment in their education," said Bethune.

The curriculum is tailored toward each student's abilities, but if it weren't for fundraising, none of this would be possible.

Many nonprofits, especially smaller ones, depend on the generosity of others. For some, Amplify Austin Day is their biggest fundraiser of the year.

"On this day, your dollar is going further, so we are talking about a lot of small donations coming together by a lot of people," added Celeste Flores, the executive director with I Live Here, I Give Here. I Live Here, I Give Here is the organization behind Amplify Austin.

For five years Amplify Austin has raised millions of dollars for local nonprofits, just by partnering with organizations and encouraging Austinites to give back.

"We are all consumers of the nonprofits in our community, so it's our responsibility to take care of them," said Flores.

The Rise School only makes about 40 percent of their operating costs through tuition. They're tasked with raising more than a $1 million a year to stay open.

The school brings in thousands each year from Amplify Austin and hopes to give a new perspective on learning along the way.

"This is a way to show what we are doing and prove inclusion works," said Bethune.
