NATIONWIDE – Walmart will no longer sell firearms or ammunition to people under 21 years old.

The decision comes shortly after Dick's Sporting Goods announced that their stores will no longer sell assault-style rifles.

In a release, the Walmart said: "We will update our processes as quickly as possible to implement this change."

The big-box store will also stop selling "resembling assault-style rifle" and airsoft guns and toys.

Walmart officials already stopped selling AR-15s and similar rifles in 2015. They also do not sell handguns - except in Alaska - bump stocks or high-capacity magazines.

People have already taken to social media to either applaud Walmart for the actions on Wednesday or to criticize the store for "taking rights away from law-abiding 18-21 y/o," as one person on Twitter put it.
