AUSTIN, Texas — The biggest event for cat lovers is coming to Austin.

POP Cats, a cat and pop culture convention, is scheduled to crawl into Austin Aug. 25-26.

The convention, founded by Edgar Alexander and Johana Flores, was started to raise awareness of feline welfare and celebrate the “pur-fect” pets through an experience that offers both entertainment and advocacy. The first POP Cats convention was held in Miami in 2017.

“From the moment you arrive, Austinites warm your heart with genuine kindness. The city’s creative spirit is evident in the beautiful public art around town and being home to long-standing no-kill animal shelters is proof that its residents are also passionate about pets,” Edgar Alexander, co-founder of POP Cats, said.

POP Cats is holding an open call for all regional makers, artisans, cat experts and cat-loving and volunteers. Early-bird registration ends April 15. Information on becoming a vendor, artist or volunteer can be found on the POP Cats website.

Early-bird tickets for the convention are now on sale through March 31. Adult early-bird tickets are $15. Children early-bird tickets are $7.50.
