AUSTIN, Texas — An off-duty Austin police officer was charged with a DWI on Monday.

APD officer Shawnn Williams, 34, is a Corporal and patrols Central East Austin. 

According to the arrest affidavit, an officer parked in a garage along the 1200 block of West 6th Street heard the sound of a car approaching noisily.  He pursued a speeding red Corvette, pulling over and arresting Williams who was behind the wheel, acccording to the report.

The affidavit noted that Williams' eyes were bloodshot and glassy, his speech slurred, his mental state confused and his breath smelling of alcohol. He also refused to take a field sobriety test or a breathalyzer analysis. Williams told the other officer he couldn't remember how much alcohol he consumed or where he had drinks, according to the affidavit.  

According to the Austin Police Department, he is currently on restricted duty, which is standard protocol.
