SAN ANTONIO -- It has been one year since five tornadoes touched down on San Antonio north side damaging hundreds of home and leaving debris scattered across several neighborhoods.

One year later construction continues at homes on Linda Drive and in some cases the houses are still missing. Only a concrete slab remains at one address. Neighbors say the property owner plans to begin rebuilding his next month, more than a year after the tornado hit.

It’s a sign that it’s been a slow recovery.

“I had just put a new roof on. Just finished leveling the house, put a new roof on a new AC,” said Tommy Evans.

His home filled with water and a massive tree in his front yard was destroyed. The roof he replaced three weeks earlier was torn apart by one of five tornadoes that came down right over his house. Since then he and his neighbors have worked to clean up what was left and work even harder to rebuild.

“We’re starting to get there. Unfortunately we had a whole bunch of scammers that did a lot of shoddy work. There’s still a lot of people that haven’t moved in. For the longest time, probably five, six months, I was the only one here,” said Evans.

Evans said the landscaping has changed. Many of the trees that covered the neighborhood are gone. But Evans said he’s happy to see his neighbors have returned.
