CALIFORNIA – A new study has some good news for happy hour enthusiasts.

Alcohol could help you live past 90 years old, according to “The 90+” study from the University of California.

Neurologist Dr. Claudia Kawas, MD, examined 1,700 people who lived to age 90 and above.

Researchers found that those who drink two glasses of wine or beer reduced premature death by 18 percent.

Participants who drank moderate amounts of alcohol lived longer than those who abstained.

The latest findings also note that people who were slightly overweight, but not obese, were three percent less likely to die young.

However, experts say you shouldn’t cancel your gym membership just yet. Daily exercise reduces the risk of early death by eleven percent.

Dr. Kawas has admitted that she does not know the correlation between drinking in moderation and living longer, but she firmly believes it improves the length of lives.

The study is ongoing and seeking 90-year-old participants. Contact 949-768-3635 or email study90@uci.edu
