NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — Panic ensued on social media after alleged threats to New Braunfels Middle School.

Police saying a whole lot about the nature of the threat, other than it led students and parents to believe someone was planning a shooting on the campus.

For that reason, department phones have been ringing off the hook.

But NBPD spokesperson David Ferguson says thus far, an investigation is revealing that an alleged shooting threat against New Braunfels Middle School is unfounded.

That hasn't stopped a panic on social media though.

Parents and students alike have been tweeting about the supposed threat to campus.

One NBISD student tweeted quote, “My little brother just came home from school super early because a kid was going to shoot up New Braunfels Middle School today."

Ferguson says he cannot confirm how exactly the threat was communicated — or the nature of the threat.

"We believe it was one student, making one threat, against one particular campus," said Ferguson.

School district officials are working closely with police and have been communicating with parents via email blasts.

"At this point, we do not believe we have a credible threat, but the investigation continues, and if that were to change, we certainly would be letting everyone know, especially parents, but also including the community at large," said Ferguson.

Ferguson says police take even unfounded threats very seriously, especially following the school shooting last week in Parkland, Florida.
