PFLUGERVILLE, Texas – Students, parents, teachers, and staff gathered in Pflugerville to show their support for safe schools following the Florida mass shooting that left 17 dead.

All community members were invited to join the rally against gun violence in schools Monday morning. Pflugerville’s Mayor Victor Gonzales took part in the rally, alongside parents and concerned residents.

Pflugerville High School and Pflugerville ISD partnered together to ensure the rally was a safe community event.

People were encouraged to bring signs with supportive messages that voice their concerns about the ongoing issue with gun violence.

Catherine Prystup has two children in elementary school. Upon hearing news of the shooting, she said she was outraged, sad and frustrated by the lack of action from lawmakers.

“It’s really outrageous,” Prystup said. “I work from home. My home is close to my children’s elementary school and, every time sirens go by, that’s where my first thought goes.”

The Facebook event said the rally was confined to the sidewalk across from Pflugerville High School to avoid disrupting traffic.

The rally kicked off at 7: 30 a.m. and ended at 9:30 a.m. at 1440 W Pecan St.
