COMAL COUNTY, Texas — Comal County Sheriff's deputies said they didn't pursue a sexual assault investigation into the man who killed 26 people in a Sutherland Springs Church last year, even though the woman reporting it signed the complaint detailing the attack.

Records released Friday describe a June 2013 investigation of sexual assault allegations against the shooter.

The shooter's first wife also gave a statement to the sheriff's office as part of the investigation.

She said the shooter abused her repeatedly and even waterboarded her.

The records say the case was made inactive because the victim didn't return a detective's messages.
