LOCKHART, Texas – Two suspects are in custody after a Caldwell County Sheriff's deputy was shot multiple times on Friday.

Deputy Jay Johnson was shot while responding to a 911 call about a theft on Hidden Oaks Road. He has undergone multiple surgeries and is still hospitalized, according to the sheriff's office.

Johnson has been with the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office for less than a year.    

Kimberley Ashford Moore, 54, and Eduardo Lupe Padilla Jr., 33, are both charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and deadly conduct discharge of a firearm. They are both are being held on separate $100,000 bonds.
