SADEN, Belgium — Aldi has removed thousands of packs of frozen mixed vegetables from its shelves and issued a recall after an English customer said she found half a rat inside a bag.

Pat Bateman, 60, said she had just finished feeding lunch to her two-year-old granddaughter and was putting the packet back in the freezer when she spotted the rodent.

Pat, who lives with husband Dave, 70, in England, told The Sun, “I had just finished up feeding my grandaughter her lunch when I went to put the packet back in the freezer.

She returned the bag to her local store in Liskeard, Cornwall, and was given £30 (~$42) off her next shop.

But Mr Bateman then contacted Aldi's head office in Germany, which offered her £500 (~$700) compensation.

The mixed veg is produced by a supplier Agrifreez in Saden, Belgium, and nearly 40,000 packets were sent out just before Christmas.

Aldi said in a statement to Sky News has stopped selling it per further investigation.

The supermarket chain said they had received one customer complaint and two from Environmental Health over the same batch and a further report of a “mouse portion” was found in the same product in February 2017.

Reports did not say if U.S. Aldi stores were affected by the recall and there is no information regarding a recall of the products in question.
