AUSTIN, Texas – A 23-year-old man died on Friday following an officer-involved shooting in Central Austin.

Christopher Eric Giles, who was from Albuquerque, N.M., was shot to death shortly after 3:45 a.m. after witnesses said he tried to rob a home on the 4500 block of Avenue G. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officer Matthew Jackson was the one who fired at Giles. He has been with the department for 4 years and has been placed on paid administrative leave.

Authorities initially said that Giles shot at Jackson as he tried to flee the scene.

The shooting is under investigation by APD's Internal Affairs Unit and the Special Investigation Unit.
