SAN ANTONIO – A cancer care center is opening their new doors to patients across South Texas.

The University of Texas Health San Antonio Center changed its name to the Mays Cancer Center. The name change comes from the most recent donation by the Mays Family Foundation of $30 million for the center.

"This will be a place close to home where all of San Antonio and South Texas can come when they hear those words, you have cancer," Mays Family Foundation President, Kathryn Mays Johnson said.

The multi-million dollar donation is expected to improve the quality of care, create new research, invest in new drug discoveries and help train future health care leaders.

"Here, at the Mays Cancer Center will come more breakthroughs, more cures, more lives changed forever," University of Texas System Chancellor, William McRaven said.
