AUSTIN, Texas – Austin's Historic Landmark Commission voted 8-0 Monday night to demolish the Castle Hill graffiti park off of North Lamar Boulevard.

The application was filed by JB Cumby Construction. And now that it's been approved, demolition could begin at any moment.

The walls, located at 1012 Baylor St., are also known as the HOPE Outdoor Gallery. The educational project is managed by the nonprofit HOPE Events and was officially launched in March of 2011. The property that houses the park is valued at more than $5 million.

Despite the park's popularity, it doesn't generate any revenue and will be forced to relocate to a new, six-acre location on Carson Creek Ranch. The new location is expected to be finished by the end of 2018.

One of the misconceptions about HOPE Outdoor Gallery is that it's a City of Austin entity.
