AUSTIN, Texas – Austin police on Monday afternoon reported a man is now in custody in connection to the first homicide in the city in 2018.

Austin police earlier issued a murder warrant for a man believed to be connected to the death of 50-year-old Ronda Beans on Sunday in East Austin.

Around 4:46 p.m., police were called to the 5300 block of Wellington Drive after reports of shots fired. Beans was found shot on the ground when officers arrived.

Austin firefighters immediately began life-saving measures, but Beans died shortly after at the Dell Seton Medical Center.

After speaking with witnesses, police believe 49-year-old Waymon “Keith” Eason Sr. to be the shooting suspect after ongoing domestic violence issues with Beans.

The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force took Eason into custody Monday afternoon.

The Travis County Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy on Tuesday, Jan. 23.

Ronda Beans was killed on Jan. 21 at the 5300 block of Wellington Drive.
