AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Fire Department shift crew from Station 28 swapped out their traditional tools with PUPPIES.

The "Veggie Pack" — Beet, Butternut Squash, Parsnip, Radish and Turnip — are available for adoption at the Austin Humane Society.

The 4-week-old mixed breed puppies (who are expected to be around 40 pounds or so when fully grown) arrived with mama, Sweet Potato, in December.

The Veggie Pack has been living with a foster family.

These sweet puppies will be featured at AHS’ 11th annual Puppy Bowl on Feb. 3 as their Puppy Players. They’ll represent the two teams who will be competing in the big game that Sunday, and will go head to head in the MVP ("Most Valuable Puppy") races as well as make their prediction as to who will win the Super Bowl.

The event will feature food, music, vendors, and more than 50 puppies eligble for adoption.

The Veggie Pack won't be available for adoption until after the Puppy Bowl and then once all five get their spay/neuter surgeries, they'll be ready to go for fur-ever homes.

Puppy Bowl will be held from noon to 3 p.m. at the Austin Humane Society, 124 W. Anderson Lane.
