HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- A Houston-area man prosecutors call the ‘Tourniquet Killer' is set for execution.

Anthony Allen Shore will be the first person executed in the US this year. He is expected to be executed Thursday in Huntsville.

Shore was convicted of capital murder for strangling a woman. He also confessed to strangling a 9-year-old and two teenagers. Prosecutors nicknamed Shore the Tourniquet Killer for how he killed Maria del Carmen Estrada in 1992. He used a stick to tightly secure a chord around the 21-year-old's neck.

DNA evidence didn't connect Shore to the murder until 2004.
