PUERTO RICO -- Puerto Rican leaders are making a push for statehood.

Gov. Ricardo Rossello pressed lawmakers to make Puerto Rico the 51st state. Rossello said the island-territory lacks the full representation and that Puerto Ricans are treated like second hand citizens.

"It is inconceivable. Inconceivable that in the 21st century, we are talking about a 15th century construct as being acceptable within the greatest, most modern nation in the world,” said Rossello.

97 percent of Puerto Ricans voted for statehood in the last election, taking a major jump from 2012. Only 61 percent voted for statehood at that time.
