AUSTIN, Texas -- About six East Austin Food Trucks reported being broken into overnight Saturday into Sunday.

Some had money stolen and others just got damage to their trucks. The incident occurred at Mueller Lake.

"It's already hard enough. There would have been a padlock here, but that was cleared straight off,” said Maxwell Giffin, a food truck operator.

Fortunately, the burglar stopped before picking the lock on the doorknob, causing some damage that is already set to be replaced.

"It's tough going through stuff like this, knowing that someone would try and take what we rightfully scratched and scraped to try and earn,” said Giffin.

Other trucks weren't as lucky. Jim Short and his fiancé rushed down to the lake after an employee found their truck with the doors open.

"This lock right here. They basically forced it open. They came straight to the cash drawer,” said Short.

The burglar took off with about $500 cash, and caused about $1,000 worth of damage to their truck.

"It is hard. It's day to day. Some days are good. Some days aren't so good and it's going to hurt," said Short.

Truck owners say this is not the first break-in in the area, but it serves as a good lesson.

"First thing, we won't be leaving any cash anymore. The locks are easily broken. So, we will be beefing those up too,” said Short.

Other trucks reported losing small amounts of cash, sodas, and even cigarettes. A few months back one truck had all of their iPads stolen.
