AUSTIN, Texas – At least one person is dead due to icy conditions on Austin-area roadways.
An adult male died in a three-vehicle collision at Spanish Oaks Club Boulevard and West SH 71 in West Austin around 5:30 p.m. The victim was identified as Michael Charles Roeder, 41, of Austin. Eight other people were being treated for non-life threatening conditions.
As of 7:40 p.m., the Austin Travis County EMS responded to 37 traffic incidents.
The Austin Police Department reported the following closures at 7 p.m.:
- Steck overpass at Mopac in North Austin
- 13900 block of southbound US 183 in East Austin
- 3300 block of Far West Blvd in North Austin
- Northbound ramp to Mopac from US 183
While students do not officially return to school until Thursday, Leander ISD is delaying its start time for all staffers until 10 a.m. on Wednesday because of weather conditions.
Lago Vista ISD will be open be operating on a two-hour delay on Wednesday.
