CHARLOTTE -- Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Officer Rhonda Murray is asking for the public's help in getting the Salas-Reyes family back on their feet.

Janeth Salas-Reyes, 13, was diagnosed with a serious blood disorder in November and spent 25 days in the hospital. Two weeks before that, her mother Sonia, lost her job.

Murray knew the family through a CMPD outreach program for the Hispanic community, and decided to make a GoFundMe page on their behalf.

"Their mother is able to withdraw from that account to assist in transportation fees, utilities, odd doctor bills that will come in that aren't going to be covered," Murray said. "Her condition will require months of treatment and also months of coming back and forth, to Levine. We consider them family now and they always will be."

Murray visited Janeth in the hospital along with several other officers. All of them encouraged the young girl to keep her spirits up.

Murray said Choate Construction even "adopted" the family of four sisters for Christmas, making sure their holiday is as normal and happy as possible.

You can find the GoFundMe page here - any and all donations, will go directly to making sure the family has what they need.
