HAYS COUNTY, Texas - The destruction left behind by the 2015 Memorial Day weekend floods is slowly disappearing.

On Wednesday, Hays County celebrated the re-opening the Post Road Bridge. The bridge was completely destroyed two years ago when the Blanco River rose from its banks and swept the structure away.

As the one bridge that connects San Marcos and Kyle, transportation officials installed a temporary one-lane bridge made out of flat rail cars.  That was removed in July so construction crews could start building a permanent bridge.

The new bridge is two-lanes wide and has 4-foot shoulders to enhance safety.

The $900,000 project was completed a month ahead of schedule.

Hays County and state leaders also planted a tree at the Five Mile Dam Park to kick-off reforestation of the Blanco River banks.
