AUSTIN, Texas -- Some lucky elementary students got to do some Christmas shopping with Austin police.

Jaime Padron and Alison elementary students got to pick from hundreds of toys at Target. Each child got $130 to buy gifts, not only for themselves, but for their friends and family. Austin police say ‘Shop with a Cop’ is a great way to remind the students that police officers are friends in the community.

"If we can make a difference in a child's life and show them the positive outlook on how police officers are, and that we're just like them, we're making a difference in their lives,” said Aaron Brown, of the Austin Police Department.

Target also had a gift wrapping station this year, along with cookies and hot cocoa.
