AUSTIN, Texas - A Christmas present is wrapped and under the tree after being stolen from a porch in South Austin.

"I really thought that everything would make it inside the house this year,” said Stacie Rae Putnam. "He only grabbed one. He could have grabbed all three. I think he didn't because the dog started barking and neighbors started driving down the street."

Putnam says she is vigilant about checking the tracking number on her packages, but Tuesday she wasn’t home. Putnam says she had three boxes on the way, but only two were on her porch when she got home.

The next day when she had more packages delivered she checked with her UPS delivery man, who insisted he dropped off all three of her packages.

She checked her camera feed and that's when she saw a man wearing a UPS vest stealing her Christmas present.

"It only sat here for 19 minutes to begin with,” said Putnam. “Even if I would have been home, he probably still would have gotten the package."

"That's an interesting twist to the story because if neighbors are looking at him, they are going to see a guy who looks like he works for UPS, moving packages around. It's not really going to seem out of the ordinary,” said Sgt. Noel Guerin with the Austin Police Department.

Austin Police recovered the package and stopped by Thursday afternoon to drop off her $400 box, which is now wrapped and ready for her boyfriend to open on Christmas.
