SAN ANTONIO - The Children's Hospital of San Antonio and Catholic Charities are spreading holiday joy to families, including several impacted by Hurricane Harvey.

Nothing catches your eye quite like a glistening Christmas tree - unless you're a little girl like Gesica. Not everyone believes in love at first sight, but all it took was one look for her to pick out the Mickey Mouse tree to take home.

"We are very happy - very very happy," said Hurricane Harvey survivor Madalina Barbu.

It's a piece of Christmas that Madalina Barbu didn't think her family of six would have this year. After leaving Romania and settling in the U.S., they found themselves in the path of Hurricane Harvey.

"The apartment - we can't stay anymore. There was a lot of water," she said.

The youngest, Ortensia, was only six weeks old.

"We had to stay in the car for three days. No food, no nothing," Barbu said.

Now with the help of Catholic Charities, they're getting back on their feet.

"We are happy because the people are very good here in America and they help us very much," Barbu said.

Her family aren't the only ones receiving holiday cheer from the 33 trees lining the lobby of the Children's hospital.

Each tree is as unique as the departments that designed them, and each are going to a local family.

"Catholic Charities will drive up to the hospital with their big trucks, load these trees just as they are, decorated and all, and deliever them to families throughout San Antonio who are really in need. Quite honestly, if Catholic Charities didn't deliever one of our trees, they may not have a tree for Christmas," said Christus Santa Rosa Health System's Mission Integration Regional VP Dennis Gonzales said.

Even though Madalina and her family weren't left with much when they evacuated from Houston, they have each other, and San Antonio's support as they prepare to call the Alamo City their new home.

"We have very much faith. A lot of faith, so I think it's enough for us because we know somebody sees us," Barbu said.
