SAN ANTONIO – City leaders in San Antonio are looking at ways for drivers to get to their destinations safer and faster.

Council members are creating proposals to encourage people to use different modes of transportation.

One proposal is to push the use of mass transit and carpools. Another option is to create partnerships with some employers and give incentives to commuters.

"If they employ 1,000 people, these 100 or 200 are employees that work predictable schedules. They're in at 9, they're out at 5,” said Rey Saldaña with the San Antonio City Council District 4. “And, if we can get a bus system that works according to their schedule, we can coordinate the timing of our buses with their needs in the private sector."

A new task force made up of private and government employers is expected to update the city council on their proposals in the next six months.
