ROXBORO, N.C. -- The season's first winter storm dumped up to two inches of snow in parts of Person County Saturday.

But it wasn't quite the winter wonderland but more a wet mess. The weather system brought a wintry mix of rain, forming ice on some surfaces.

“The snow and ice. It's light from where we come from. We just retired. We moved here from New York. So this is light stuff for us,” said Zack Winbush, who continued his daily walk with his wife in downtown Roxboro.

Light traffic moved through the city. The roads were wet but still passable. Authorities urged people to drive slowly and carefully. Officers responded to more than two dozen accidents since Friday afternoon.

Some businesses closed because of the weather but others remained open, like Savannah Jack's Cafe in downtown, hoping to some some customers.

“I think it's a 50-50 shot. People could be out. I think there's more snow coming. So we'll see what happens. But we'll be here regardless,” said owner Jason Willis.
