AUSTIN, Texas — Almost three months since Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, crews are still working to get power restored to the island.

Three Austin Energy employees will go to the island to help guide and coordinate initiatives to rebuild the island's power grid.

This is the first of several deployments to support teams managing over 3,500 utility field workers.

"This is one of those missions that you should be proud of,” Luis Rivas of Austin Energy said. “It's not only what I'm going to be doing in providing assistance to the people of Puerto Rico, but also going to represent Austin Energy, the City of Austin and provide some of that Texas flavor into Puerto Rico - that, you know, we're Texans, we're here to help."

The utility employees will work on the island for the next month.
