AUSTIN, Texas — Although it's hailed as a “weird” city, Austin is not a very “hipster” city, according to Movehub.

The website published a list of top hipster cities in the U.S. naming Vancouver, Washington as number one.

According to Movehub, the index was based on five data points. The study looked at the number of microbreweries, thrift stores, vegan restaurants, and tattoo studios per 100,000 city residents and the fifth scaled rent inflation within the last year. The five points were weighted to calculate a “hipster index” score with 10 being the most hipster.

Austin scored a 4.88 out of 10.

Movehub recognized there is no clear definition of a hipster, but categorized a hipster as someone in the 20- to 30-something age group who enjoy craft beer, thrift shopping, organic and sustainable food, holds primarily progressive political beliefs and has a distinct style.

The top ten most hipster cities are:

  1. Vancouver, Washington

  2. Salt Lake City, Utah

  5. Richmond, Virginia

  6. Tacoma, Washington
