CHARLOTTE -- Vi Lyles will be officially sworn in Monday night as the new mayor of Charlotte.

Lyles is the first black female mayor and will be joined with six new members of Charlotte City Council, all of whom are younger than 40.

During the campaign, some pushed for millennials to get involved with city government.

The new council members want to continue that effort, hoping social media will be a way more millennials on board.

"Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram Live, and being able to introduce what's already happening to the community, and connect our networks to local government without them even ever having to step foot downtown is an important piece to the puzzle around interconnectivity in this city," said Councilman-elect Justin Harlow.

The swearing in is Monday night at 7 at the Government Center.
