FLORENCE, Texas - The Florence Police Department is investigating after two students claimed to receive bruises and blisters after being made to perform bear crawls.

The Florence Middle School students said they were made to perform the exercise by two substitute teachers. The bear crawl is a strengthening exercise that involves crouching down with hands shoulder-width apart and walking forward and backward.

Police received complaints from two parents Thursday. Florence Police Chief Adam Marsh said so far his department is only investigating complaints from the two parents but that more children may be involved.

Marsh further said his department is working with the Wilson County District Attorney’s Office to determine if charges will be filed.
