SAN MARCOS, Texas — A man was sentenced to 60 years in prison for possession of methamphetamine.

Wayne Allsup, 46, was pulled over by police on June 24, 2016. During the stop police found liquid methamphetamine and a needle inside the vehicle.

Under state habitual offender laws, Allsup was facing anywhere from 25 to 99 years in prison.

“I think the jury in this case got it right,” Hays County District Attorney Wes Mau said. “Some people believe that they can continue to commit crime after crime and the law will not stop them. The habitual offender statutes are designed for exactly those situations where the regular punishment range is not enough to deter the person.”

Allsup’s arrest record dates back to 1999.
