MARBLE FALLS, Texas – An off-duty police officer was involved in a shooting on Thursday night in Marble Falls related to a road rage incident.

Around 10:11 p.m., the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about shots fired on Farm to Market 1431 involving an off-duty Austin police officer. The department said the people involved indicated the shooting stemmed from a road rage incident.  

According to investigators, a driver pulled a handgun on a family that was inside a vehicle. The off-duty officer was driving home when he came across the scene. The armed suspect and the officer reportedly fired at each other, injuring the driver.

During the gunfire, the family was able to escape their car and hide in a nearby bush.

The wounded driver was found unconscious in a bush and was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center to treat his non-life threatening injuries. He is currently in stable condition.

Texas Rangers will help the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office investigate the shooting. The officer is not being named at this time.
