AUSTIN, Texas - Three months after Hurricane Harvey, more than 1,000 homes in Port Arthur still need to be cleaned out. A local organization is sending volunteers for three weekends, hoping to help kickstart the rebuilding process.

The Austin Disaster Relief Network is rounding up volunteers that will head out this weekend to help with cleanup efforts. The homes will be completely mucked out, with sheetrock and debris ripped out and damaged furniture removed.

ADRN says 69 families are still living in their flooded homes despite their condition.

The people behind this three-weekend project hope to bring in thousands of volunteers to Port Arthur. The organization says this is the perfect time to give back because it is the season of giving.

"We know that this is typically a very busy time for all of our families, but there are families right now that have nothing. I mean, literally, they've lost their car. They've lost their job. They've lost their home, and for them it's a hopeless situation, but that hopeless situation becomes hope-filled when they begin to see volunteers, clean out their home, begin to participate in their lives,” said ADRN Executive Director Daniel Geraci.

The volunteers will head out Friday. Volunteers can sign up here: www.adrn.org
