HAYS COUNTY, Texas-- The Hays County Deputy shot last week has been release from the hospital.

Deputy Benjamin Gieselman was shot early Friday morning, when officers were called out to armed robbery at a Wimberley business.

When they arrived, suspect Rocky Miles West ambushed them opening fire from a hiding spot.  After a brief shootout, West fled into the woods. Investigators said his body was discovered a short time later, believed to have been shot by deputies. West had an extensive criminal history and was well known to local authorities.

Deputy Gieselman has been with Hays County for three years.
