RALEIGH – A man who allegedly robbed a Raleigh gas station early Tuesday morning ended up injured after the store’s clerk fought back with a baseball bat.

It happened at the Circle K gas station in the 2500 block of South Saunders Street at 12:23.

When police arrived, they found 51-year-old William Winston lying in the parking lot of the store.

The store clerk told police Winston entered the business and demanded money while implying that he had a weapon and then left the store. That’s when the clerk reportedly went after Winston and struck him in the head with the bat, subduing him until police arrived on scene.
