WILMINGTON -- With Thanksgiving just a few days away, area shelters and organizations are looking for help to feed the homeless.

According to a 2016 report by the North Carolina Coalition to End Homelessness, close to 400 people are without permanent housing in Brunswick, Pender and New Hanover Counties.

The Good Shepher Center is making sure some of those folks don't go without a Thanksgiving meal. They need donations of pantry staples like sugar, flour and spices to make that possible.

Volunteers say it's a rewarding experience to give back to this vulnerable population."Gives you a lot of satisfaction and that's the reason we come. All the volunteers come cause we want to help these people out. We want to give them a little bit of joy during the day, as well as a good meal," said volunteer, Dick Nasca.

The Good Shepherd Center's Thanksgiving dinner is strickly for their overnight shelter guests.
