NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Longtime country music star, Mel Tillis has died. 

Tillis wrote hits for Kenny Rogers, Ricky Skaggs and many more. He overcame a stutter to sing on dozens of his own singles, such as “Good Woman Blues,” ″Coca Cola Cowboy” and “Southern Rain.”

His daughter is country music singer Pam Tillis. A spokesperson for Mel Tillis says he died early Sunday morning in Florida.

He is said to have died from respiratory failure. He was 85.
